About umamigains
Hi, I’m Joseph — the cook, recipe-tester, and macro-counter behind
umamigains. This is where my love of Asian food meets my obsession with
hitting a protein goal without eating sad, repetitive meals.
Why high-protein Asian Food?
Like a lot of people, I got tired of the trade-off: either eat the food I
love — bulgogi, pad krapow, fried rice, matcha desserts — or eat “clean” and
be bored. So I started rebuilding my favorite Asian dishes to be higher in
protein and friendlier to my macros, without sacrificing the flavors that make
them worth eating. Turns out you really can have both. umamigains is where I
share what works.
What you’ll find here
Every recipe on this site is high in protein, comes with a full macro
breakdown, and is written to be genuinely doable on a weeknight. Most take
under 30 minutes. Many are meal-prep friendly. All of them are dishes I
actually make and eat. I lean on lean proteins, smart swaps (hello, Greek
yogurt and lean ground meats), and bold aromatics so the flavor never feels
like a compromise.
